Adoption Storytelling Project

Has your life been personally touched by the adoption of a child? Share your experience and educate others about the many steps you took plus challenges and triumphs by telling your story through the newly launched Adoption Storytelling Project lead by adoptive mom and Adoption Knowledge Affiliates member, Sharon Munroe. Munroe is the Founder and Executive Director of the Advanced Maternal Age Project, an Austin-based nonprofit. It is a resource for women and couples looking to start a family at age 35 and older.

The Adoption Storytelling Project is a collaborative effort and will consist of a handful of interviews told in the words of those whose lives have been enriched by adoption. The interview format and narratives we write will be similar to the one featured here. Each story – with details about your adoption experience – should be between 500 to 1,000 words.

Created as a platform for adoptive parents to share expert advice and first-knowledge about the adoption process, the Adoption Storytelling Project is an extension of the Advanced Maternal Age Project. It is a place where adoptive parents can use their voice to help others better understand the process of adoption without fear of being ridiculed. This is meant to be a positive experience, a chance to make a difference in the lives of others.
